The Huskies could run into rival Tennessee on their quest for another National Championship.
The UConn Women begin their road toward another national championship on Sunday.
The overall No. 1 seed Huskies will take on No. 16 seed Southern University in Norfolk, Virginia. UConn has won 72 games in a row since 2008 and the team hopes to continue the run for a second straight perfect season.
Although the Huskies' season series with Tennessee has ended, the two teams could meet up in the Final Four in San Antonio. The Lady Vols earned one of the other No. 1 seeds, along with Nebraska and Stanford. The Cardinals were the last team to beat UConn and that was in the 2008 Final Four.
UConn won't be the only Connecticut team in the women's NCAA Tournament. The University of Hartford earned a No. 10 seed in the Memphis region and will open play on Saturday against No. 7 seed LSU in Durham, North Carolina. Jen Rizzotti's Hawks lost in the America East final to Vermont and lost key player Erica Beverly in the game.
If UConn continues its run and wins the National Championship, it will be a seventh title for the team and for Coach Geno Auriemma. The Huskies would also be the first to win back-to-back championships since Tennessee did it in 2007 and 2008.
The final will be held April 6 in San Antonio.
