Woman's Divorce Filing Cites “Fifty Shades of Grey”

Wife was bored by her husband after he allegedly refused to recreate scenes from the popular erotic book

A British woman filed for divorce after her husband allegedly refused to be more adventurous in the bedroom or take inspiration from the erotic fantasy book "Fifty Shades of Grey."

The woman, a 41-year-old banker, claimed in her grounds for divorce, that her husband's "boring attitude" toward sex is evidence of "unreasonable behavior"—one of the five grounds of divorce under English law, according to the Daily Mail, which reported the story.

"She thought their sex life had hit a rut—he never remembered Valentine's Day and he never complimented her on her appearance," Manda McAlister, the wife's solicitor told the Daily Mail. "So she bought sexy underwear in an attempt to get her husband more involved."

The husband is admitting "unreasonable behavior" so the divorce could proceed quickly and he can avoid a contested hearing, which would put details of his sex life into the public record, the Mail reported.

According to the British newspaper, the woman, who was not named in the report, bought the bestselling book in the hopes that it could lead to a better sex life with her husband—an effort the woman says failed.

The novel, the first in a trilogy by British author EL James, tells the story of a sadomasochistic affair between billionaire Christian Grey and student Anastasia Steele. The book has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide and it had created a new genre in the publishing world called "mummy porn."

"It used to be the men who complained they weren't getting enough nookie in the bedroom," said McAlister. "But now it's the women who are calling their husbands boring after reading books like 'Fifty Shades.'"
