Legend has it that somewhere out there Bigfoot exists. He’s hairy, he’s huge and he’s half-human, half-ape. After the stunt that cops say he pulled in Fairfield, Conn., he’s also probably grounded.

Around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, a woman was driving along on a road in Fairfield when she saw what appeared to be something right out of urban legend -- an 8-foot-tall creature with a large body and “legs like tree trunks.” Then it got scarier. She almost hit the beast.

She switched her headlights to high beams and the creature covered its face and ran into the woods, according to The Connecticut Post.

So, she called the police to report, she "almost hit Sasquatch."

Bigfoot turned out to be a fake -- a 16-year-old dressed up in a gorilla costume.

The teen told officers he was standing at the intersection of Unquowa and Sturges roads, waving at passing cars while his friends watched.

A police officer escorted the phony back home and turned him over to his parents, who told police he should have used better judgment, according to The Post.
