Man Tried to Steal His Own Dog: Cops

A West Hartford man has been charged with trying to steal his own dog.

Molly, was placed in the pound after her owner, Walter Scovish, was arrested last week and charged with drug offenses.Scovish was released on bond on Friday, but was told he wouldn't get his dog back until Tuesday, police said.

Instead of waiting, Scovish tried to break into the pound on Monday morning using tools he got by breaking into a nearby fire department training area and others from a landscaping business, police said. Officers found Scovish hiding in a nearby drainage pipe after an alarm went off just before 6 a.m.

"When all was said and done, he's now looking at a whole litany of charges when, in fact, he had been released and all he had to do was be patient and behave himself and wait until Tuesday," Lt. Stephen Estes, of West Hartford police, said.

Scovish is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
