Yvonne Nava

You can see Yvonne Nava every weekday morning as co-anchor of NBC Connecticut News. She joined the station in December 2007.

Yvonne began her career at age 18, reporting for Telemundo in her hometown of Laredo, Texas. She then went on to anchor at KACB in San Angelo, Texas. Her next move took her to KCBD in Lubbock, Texas, where she anchored the weekend evening news and covered many national stories, from deadly tornadoes to the Columbia space shuttle disaster. Then it was off to Tennessee at WATE in Knoxville, where she helped launch the station's weekend morning newscast.

She soon left the mountains of Tennessee for the beaches of sunny south Florida. In 2005, she joined WPLG in Miami as a breaking news reporter and fill-in anchor. Yvonne covered everything from crime and hurricanes to Fidel Castro.

Her career highlights include traveling to rural Mexico, where she discovered contaminated vegetables were the cause of a Hepatitis A outbreak in east Tennessee. She also reported on the capture of Eric Rudolph (the Olympic Park bomber) in North Carolina.

Yvonne graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Business. In college, she was recognized by Hispanic magazine for being an outstanding role model for Latinas.

She also devotes her time to mentoring young girls, the Connecticut chapter of the Lupus Foundation, Meals on Wheels and Family Life Education of Hartford. Yvonne is also a strong supporter of the Latinas and Power Symposium which helps inspire Latinas to succeed.

As for hobbies, Yvonne is currently learning how to play the drums. She also enjoys baking, traveling and getting to meet people in her community.

Yvonne is also the proud mother of a baby boy and calls him her greatest accomplishment to date! Yvonne and her family are happy to be living in Connecticut and are enjoying all that New England has to offer.
