Andrew Pergam joined NBC Connecticut as a general assignment reporter in September 2002, and currently oversees the station's digital offerings through NBCConnecticut.com.
In his time here, Andrew has played an integral role in launching the station's New Haven Studio on the Green, where he has covered both local and national stories: the deadly fire at a Rhode Island nightclub, the bombing of the Yale Law School and numerous federal corruption trials. He has been nominated for a number of Emmy Awards and won as part of the NBC team that reported from the California Wildfires in 2007.
Prior to arriving in Connecticut, Andrew worked as a reporter at the National Public Radio affiliate in his native Washington, D.C., where his work was recognized on the floor of Congress. In addition to on-air reporting, he also worked behind the scenes as an assignment editor at WRC-TV, the NBC station in Washington, and as a field producer at WBAL-TV in Baltimore.
Certain of his ambitions at a tender age, Andrew began his career before getting his driver's license. Among his various tasks at Washington's Radio Zone (WKDL-AM), he reported school closings from his basement. His talents and remarkable work ethic wowed the management, who offered him a position as "Aahzie," the station's ubiquitous -- and fuzzy -- mascot.
From there, he continued his fledgling career as a host for WRC's "Teen TV," which won a number of Emmy Awards.
Following his undergraduate studies in writing and political science at Johns Hopkins University, Andrew earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. He serves on the Board of the school's Alumni Association, and is an active member of a number of professional organizations.
