You can see Debra Alfarone reporting live many mornings on NBC Connecticut. She joined the news team in July 2008.
Before joining NBC Connecticut, Debra worked as as a general assignment reporter for News 12 Connecticut where she won several awards for breaking news and exclusive interviews including honors from AP, Aegis, Aurora, the Society of Professional Journalists, The Connecticut Press Club and the Telly Awards.
Before coming to Connecticut, Debra was a general assignment reporter at SI76, a Time Warner Cable affiliate in New York City, and also worked as a Traffic Reporter in the tri-state area for News 12 Traffic and Weather. Debra began her broadcast journalism career at NY1, the 24-hour Time Warner Cable station in New York City, where she was a camera-person and also worked on the assignment desk.
Reporting is actually Debra's second career. She worked in the World Trade Center in NYC as a Vice President for investment bank Morgan Stanley until just a few months before the terrorist attacks of 9/11. On that day, she was 3 blocks away on Wall Street at a new job at American Express. She, like so many others, stayed glued to the news for weeks for critical information. It was shortly after that she decided to refocus her energy to pursue the dream job she always wanted to have, being a news reporter.
In her spare time, Debra's hobbies include volunteering, kickboxing, blogging, thrift-shopping and keeping up on fashion.
