Tom Monahan

Tom Monahan has been with NBC Connecticut for more than 40 years. In addition to his position as the NBC Connecticut senior political reporter, Tom also co-hosts "Connecticut Newsmakers," a weekly program that highlights state issues and government leaders.
He attended Central Connecticut State University and the University of Hartford. Before his career in television, Tom spent seven years as a radio broadcaster in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Tom has come to be recognized as one of Connecticut's premiere political reporters.
He is a three-time Emmy winner. Tom was first honored in 1984 for his coverage of the Steven Wood homicide trial and won the only "Hard News" Emmy for any station in the Hartford and New Haven area for his series on drunken driving. Tom is widely recognized as the first reporter to break the news of the Whalers leaving Hartford, the Patriots coming to Connecticut and he was first on the air with the news of the Patriots backing out of the deal. Tom also was first to report Al Gore's selection of Sen. Joseph Lieberman as his vice presidential running mate.
On Nov. 29, 1995, at the Harvard Club in Boston, Tom was presented the Silver Circle Award by the New England Division of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The award is for excellence in broadcasting.
In 2007, Tom was inducted into the Connecticut Broadcasters Hall of Fame in a ceremony in North Haven.
Tom and his wife, Nancy, live in the greater Hartford area and enjoy golf.
