For the last 3 years I've participated in the Special Olympics Connecticut Penguin Plunge.
People think I'm crazy for doing it, but it's something I look forward to every winter. (Seriously!)
Braving the bitter cold to help raise money for such an incredible cause is a no-brainer to me.
I had the honor of hosting the Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games in New Haven last year. I had never been to a Special Olympics event before. In the few hours I spent there I've never been so touched in my life. Hundreds of athletes marched into the field as proud as can be. The Olympians were grinning from ear-to-ear, so excited to participate in their respective events.
After attending the Opening Ceremonies last year, this coming penguin plunge has even more meaning for me. I'm looking forward to taking a swim in the icy Sound to show my support to the thousands of athletes who benefit from Special Olympics.
I hope you can make it down to Madison to support the "penguins" on Jan. 31, or even take the plunge yourself!
