Casting stars for movies like Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," have made Juliet Taylor one of the country's most powerful casting directors.

Casting Meryl Streep in her first film is a boost for anyone’s resume and one of the accomplishments that makes Juliet Taylor one of the 25 most powerful casting directors in film and television. 

Backstage, a publication for the acting industry, picked the top 25.

But, the Connecticut native does not take credit for discovering Streep.

"As soon as Meryl graduated from Yale Drama School and started working in theatre, I don't think there was any doubt," Taylor told . "Everybody knew right away."

Taylor has done a lot in the years since. The list of 98 films on her Internet Movie Database listing include casting the hit  “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” the acclaimed TV mini-series “Angels in America,” and “The Interpreter,” among many, many others.

She’s won an Emmy, a Women in Film Crystal Awards and several Casting Society of America awards.

The other power casting director with Connecticut ties is Sarah Finn, a Yale-trained actor.

Her mentor is casting directing Risa Bramon Garcia, who led her toward casting, according to Backstage.

She has worked on 68 films since 1997, according to her IMDB listing. They include “200 Cigarettes”, “Mission Impossible II”, “W”, “Fast & Furious”, and more.
