Check your teenager's iPod and chances are Ludacris will be on their play list. The Grammy award-winning hip-hop artist, known for his catchy songs, will be in Connecticut Thursday to meet some New Haven teens in person.

He's making an afternoon appearance at the Rose Center to encourage kids to make smart life choices. But it looks like he will be running late. His plane is delayed.

When he gets here, the lucky group of kids who will meet him were pre-selected by the city's street outreach workers. They will be able to hear the rap star's message of stopping violence and making the right choices in life.

"I think that this private event will be great for our youth so that they can see that there are choices and people who care about their well-being. We have to nurture our youth and give them positive reinforcements because they are our future," city Alderman Greg Morehead, who helped put the event together, said.

Morehead, who has played drums on several television shows like "Saturday Night Live," has a band, Dangerzone, which did national gigs with Ludacris, the New Haven Register reported at the time.

Ludacris founded the Runaway Love Foundation to help youth runaways from around the world get their lives back on track.

The 1 p.m. event  is being held at  the Rose Center  is located at 101 Ashmun St .
