The news is out that Jennifer Hudson will be singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

We are sure the Chicago native, who will be making her first public appearance since her brother and 7-year-old nephew were killed in Chicago last fall, will do an amazing job with the vocal range that she has.

But the Hudson announcement got us thinking what other great performances have their been in national anthem performance history.

We came up with a list from Marvin Gaye's epic performance, which may have opened the door to stylizing the national anthem, to Whitney Houston's epic performance and even our local greats, the Grateful Dead, make an appearance on our list of memorable performances.

The Grateful Dead Sing at a San Francisco Giants Game

Whitney Houston Sings at the Super Bowl

Faith Hill Sings at the Super Bowl

We also decided to include some of the more terrible performances so Hudson can know what not to do.
