If you're hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend, here's a warning if you want to keep your hard-earned cash.
The National Motorists Association has put together a list of the Top 10 states that are after your money in one way or another while you're on the road, and Connecticut drivers should beware if they're headed out of state.
The self-proclaimed drivers' rights group has analyzed the laws across the country to determine the best and the worst states when it comes to exploiting the motoring public, according to the organization's news release.
The state rankings were calculated using 17 criteria, including tolls and speed traps, as well as specific traffic laws, law enforcement practices and the treatment of traffic ticket defendants.
So which states are the worst? Here's the list:
- 1) New Jersey
- 2) Ohio
- 3) Maryland
- 4) Louisiana
- 5) New York
- 6) Illinois
- 7) Delaware
- 8) Virginia
- 9) Washington
- 10) Massachusetts
The group gives New Jersey top honors because of a combination of tolls, roadblocks and speed traps throughout the state.
Local
The best states for drivers? Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, and Kentucky.
