Opened in 1925, Frank Pepe’s is known as the birthplace of pizza. As the story goes, Pepe was working in a Wooster Street bakery when he flattened some dough, tossed on some toppings and threw it in a brick oven. Out came the first "tomato pie," and later the "white clam pie," which became a signature dish. The current Pepe's is actually next to the original location, which it has since purchased. Pepe's has also opened family owned locations across the state.
