Jazz up your Monday tonight in Hartford.

JAZZ UNDER THE ARCH: Here's our theory. There's no such thing as bad live music. (OK, there is, but hear us out for a bit). And when you start with great music and musicians, put them together live, then you've got the makings of a quality evening.

Tonight at the Arch Street Tavern, the Hartford Jazz Orhchestra with Bobbi Rogers will prove our theory (the great part, not the not bad part). Before the Monday night jazz gets underway at 8 p.m., you can enjoy drink specials and free Happy Hour buffet starting at 4:30 p.m.

NOVEL IDEAS: Pick the brain of a Pulitzer Prize winner tonight in New HavenThe Long Wharf Theatre will host an Evening with Anna Quindlen. The journalist and bestselling author will discuss her new novel, Every Last One. Besides the book chat, there will also be wine and hors d'ouevres.

The evening is sponsored by Read to Grow, a nonprofit organization that works to improve children's literacy. Tickets are $50, or you can shell out $70 and get a signed copy of Quindlen's book. Reservations are requested and seating is limited. Goes from 5:30 p.m. to 7p.m.

GET PUNKED: Florida Punk band Against Me! is making its way up the coast to New Haven tonight for a show at Toad's Place. After years of demos and gigs, the band has slowly built up a following. In 2005, the band signed on with Sire records, toured with the Foo Fighters and was even named Best Punk Band by Rolling Stone in 2008. Its latest effort, "White Crosses," is set to drop in June. Tonight Against Me! is playing with Dead to Me and Money Brother. Tickets are $15. Show starts at 6:30 p.m.
