5/18: Tasting and Seeing Connecticut

DOWNTOWN DINING:  Enjoy all the great food that Manchester has to offer tonight.  "The Taste of Manchester" is your chance to go from place-to-place sampling food at participating restaurants in downtown Manchester, like Bob & Maries, The Hungry Tiger, The Main Pub, Rocco's Pizza & Grill, El Mariachi Loco, Sukhothai Restaurant and much more.  The event is a chance to raise money for the Manchester Dog Owners Group, as they try to build the town's first dog park.  Tickets cost $30.

WHAT YOU GOT COOKIN'?:  The dining deals continue in Bridgeport.  "What's Cooking in Bridgeport Restaurant and Entertainment Week" is in full swing tonight.  The week-long event is a showcase for all the unique dining and entertainment options in the city.  Some three dozen restaurants and six of the city's best entertainment venues are taking part in the fun, offering special promotions, giving people a great chance to enjoy the food and fun of the state's biggest city.  To get a look at the deals, and see which restaurants are participating, click here.  What's Cooking in Bridgeport runs through Sunday.

OPEN AIR:  Few things inspire art and artists like the great outdoors.  Did you know there's actually a term for paintings of the natural world?  Neither did we, but then, there's a lot we don't know.  It's called en plein air (which is French apparently).  Why are we telling you this, you may ask?  Good question.  It seems plein air paintings are a past-time of local artist Chris Karpinski, and more than 30 of his works are on display at the Left Bank Gallery in Essex.  See the "Blue Sky" exhibit anytime before May 31.
