Tonight, see "The Buddy Holly Story," a high energy show focusing on the final years of the singer's short, but brilliant life. The show will include favorites like "Peggy Sue," "That'll be the Day" and "Oh Boy!" So put on your skinny ties and poodle skirts and head to the Ivoryton Playhouse. The "Buddy Holly Story" runs through August 1st. Tickets are $15-$38. Tonight's performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
IT AINT OVER TIL THE FAT LADY IMPRESSES SIMON: Truth be told, when this next event crossed our radar, we thought it was a rock opera (in the style of Tommy), centered around everyone's favorite talent search reality show. Sadly, thought not entirely so, the American Opera Idol isn't what we thought. Head to the Pond House in West Hartford too see eight up-and-coming opera singers compete to be crowned Idol champion. The classical version of the show is being put on by the Connecticut Concert Opera, and will use professional judges and audience participation to select the next American Opera Idol. Tickets are $27.50. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.. And don't steal our idea about a musical based on Simon and Seacrest's witty banter.
PARTY ROCK: There are a pair of shows tonight that will get you in the toe-tapping, head-bobbing mood. First, head over to Levitt Pavilion in Westport to embrace the "Power of Love." Huey Lewis & the News will take the stage for a special performance to benefit the Pavilion. Tickets are $70.
