9/23: Comedy, Jazz and Fried Food

LEGENDARY TRIBUTE:  The new season of shows at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven is underway.  And tonight, you can see a stage tribute to one of the true legends in music.  "Ella the Musical" features more than two-dozen hit songs from the one and only Ella Fitzgerald.  The show uses music, myth and memory to tell the story of one of the great jazz singers of the 20th century.  Tickets for the show (which runs through Oct. 17) are $45-$70.  Tonight's performance is at 8 p.m.

HILARIOUS:  You can call him crude, but you certainly can't say he's not funny.  Louis C.K., one of the most popular stand-up comics in the biz, is bringing the funny to Foxwoods tonight.  Mr. C.K. has had all sorts of specials, and a TV show.  Now, he's touring in support his new feature-length film, Hilarious (which he wrote, performed, directed and edited).  Tickets for tonight's 8 p.m. show are $29.50-$39.50.

ALL IS FAIR:  It's the biggest agricultural fair in the State.  The Durham Fair has been a late September staple going all the way back to 1916.  And of course, when you head to Durham tonight or over the weekend, you can experience all your fair favorites, like livestock, delectable, decadent desserts and live performances (including REO Speedwagon).  Tickets for the fair are $15 a day, or a $32 three-day pass.  The Durham Fair runs through Sunday.

SUDS AND SONGS:  Head to the Hilton Mystic tonight to help our friends from over the border in the Ocean State.  The Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 6th annual Brews and Blues event.  From 6 p.m.-9 p.m. you can taste over 30 beers from around the world, paired with delightful food from local eateries.  There's even live music from the Karl Kelly Band.  Tickets are $25 per person.
