A Pin-Up Party

A Betty Bazaar this weekend, Eliza B.'s prepping for a tent sale, and more!

PIN-UP PARTY....We feel a big sense of pride for Brazen Betties, the pin-up girl play chest in Torrington, that not only encourages folks to let out their inner Gibson girl but provides a showcase for Connecticut's own designers and artists. And before you start envisioning the hemp ponchos and organic screen-printed t-shirts they sell in the "local" section of Whole Foods, take in mind, Betsey Johnson was from Wethersfield - and before hitting runway fame, she was a Warhol girl who dressed Edie Sedgwick for Ciao! Manhattan. This Saturday, (9/26) they'll be putting on the Brazen Betties Bazaar, as part of Torrington Day at the Yankee Pedlar Inn. Not only will there be a Bettie Page look-a-like contest (with a first prize of $175, AND a Catherine Thiem necklace inspired by Bettie Page herself) but with your $10 entry fee, you'll get back a $10 gift certificate to the store along with a gift bag. Not shabby Connecticut.

FLIGHT OF THE "COUTURE" WEARING CONCORDS...Juicy Couture, better known for their velour jumpsuits and ability to make cupcakes, pink poodles, and cheeky panties live up to their up-most most annoying potential, has released their (somewhat) anticipated high-end, more "mature" collection, Bird by Juicy Couture. We all know how well their excessively expensive and elaborate Couture Couture line went, so what makes this one so different? Well, unlike Couture Couture, Bird will be steering away from the cutie-cute clothing that has made Juicy so famous. WWD reports the founder is calling the collection "the Juicy girl's well-traveled sister," featuring a plain black parka ($598), a fluffy fur mini cape ($350), and oh, a cashmere jumpsuit ($748/set).

CUSTOM CUSTOMERS....We just heard Eliza B., a fan favorite here at Want This, will be holding their annual Tent Sale on October 17 at their base camp in Essex. But for those of you who just can't wait, and need to get your fix online, use checkout code: indian-summer for $10 off the Allez! Ballet Flats and the hundreds of combinations of Eliza B. sandals. Remember, all shoes and sandals coming from Eliza B. are individually made with love and care from one very clever father/daughter duo in Essex, and can be completely customized, from trim to sole.

RAILROAD SELVAGE..... We've been listening our male counterparts rave about the wonders of selvage jeans for years, but it has never been enough to keep away from our stretchy sleek J Brand skinnies. So it turns out that this super stiff, turned super soft, denim isn't as heavy as it looks, and with wear and tear is not only the most reliable denim you'll own, but the most comfortable. But as the boyfriend jean fad has taken over the mass market and we've moved onto destroyed slouchy slim fits, we've started looking into the selvage market as a sigh of relief. We particularly love this pair from Citizens of Humanity, with classic detailing and minor distressing, both which will only get better with age. Find at Blue Back Square's National Jean Company for $242.

BITTEN, AGAIN.... "Just bitten" or stained cosmetics made our Top 10 Trends from New York Spring 2010 Fashion Week, so it's not surprise to us when we heard Nordstrom is already taking pre-orders for the two Twilight cosmetics lines premiering next month, just in time to suit up your Bella costume (consisting of an ugly sherpa hoodie and flare leg jeans) for Halloween. Our favorite is the Luna Twilight DuWop Lip Venom - combining the venom-induced plumping power of DuWop (a long time love affair of our's) and a deep red stain that settles below. Shake the two to take advantage of the double effect, or use separately. Find at Nordstrom in Farmington or online for $16.
