Mystic's Full of Adventure, Says National Geographic

Many people from across the country know Mystic only because of Julia Robert's 1988 flick, Mystic Pizza, but locals will tell you that's not even the best pizza joint in town.

Now Mystic, has a new distinction, thanks to National Geographic. It's one of America's Best Adventure Towns.

The magazine directs people to Captain's Row, as well as Stonington wineries and classic cider mills.

When it comes to playtime, National Geographic boosts Mystic's lighthouses, islands and seaside mansions.

It's also a great place from cyclists. People on bikes can hit the Vineyard Loop, which is a 25-miles wrap-around with some hairy climbs that stops at two wineries.

Food is also a popular draw for Mystic.

Besides, Mystic Pizza, the magazine promotes S & P Oyster Co. and Pizzetta as the best place in town for a slice or more.

After all that sightseeing and eating, sleep isn't too far off, so the magazine recommends

The Whaler's Inn in downtown Mystic is a block from the Mystic River and has all the atmosphere and sea breezes you'd expect from a coastal enclave.

Lucky for us, all that right is right in our backyard! So plan a daytrip and maybe you'll meet some new faces from across the country as folks check out one of America's Best Adventure Towns.
