Seymour Teens to Join Macy's Parade Lineup

This year's 84th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature two Seymour teens.

Stephanie Danka and Alyssa Weymer, Seymour High School seniors and co-captains of the school's dance team, have been invited to dance in the Nov. 25 parade in New York.

"I guess we're the first people in Seymour to actually be in the Macy's parade," Danka told the New Haven Register.

According to Stephanie's mom, Trisha Danka, the girls were invited a few months ago to participate in a weekend dance class at Southern Connecticut State University.  Then, the 17 year olds were invited to dance in the parade.

“The 84th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a timeless tradition, will continue to be the biggest and best ever,” Doug Vaughan, Senior Vice President of NBC Special Programs and Alternative Development, said. “We’re extremely proud to once again air this historic event to kick off the holiday season.”

Many details of the performance are being kept under wraps, but part of the group of dancers will perform a country-western theme dance, while the other half, including Stephanie and Alyssa, will be in a beach party-theme dance.

"We're extremely proud of the two of them. It's just such a great honor for them to be chosen," Alyssa's mother said.

The teens are in the process of raising $1,800 to cover the cost of the hotel, food, costume and other travel expenses. You can view the line-up here.

You can watch the parade on NBC Connecticut Thanksgiving morning.
