It's Wicked Cold, Go Tropical

Enough is enough. 2010 just got here and if you are tired of shoveling snow, sick of the scraping, annoyed by the layers, lost gloves, missing hats and long underwear, you can escape without booking a trip to Barbados or Grand Cayman.

Head to Waterbury's Coco Key and escape to a tropical winter wonderland. The indoor water park offers day passes at the state's largest indoor water resort. If you need more than a day to shake the chilly willy's, the location also offers overnight deals.

If "wastin away again in Margaritaville" is more your style, head to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville in Uncasville. The tropical atmosphere, inspired by the travels and songs of Jimmy Buffet, might help you out of this winter funk. If the surroundings don't get you in the mood, maybe a margarita or two might help. Especially if you are convinced that it's 5 o'clock somewhere.

And if you can survive through January and most of February, the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut is throwing a mid-winter beach party. Families are invited to the annual beach party on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. The day of fun includes a limbo contest, crafts and other beach style fun. The beach party is free with your admission to the museum.

It's not exactly a healthy way to start the New Year, but decent tan lines and that sunkissed look might help you forget the chapped lips and dry skin. Hollywood Tans in Hamden can help you channel your inner Jersey Shore tan (Sorry, but I couldn't resist). After all, if you've been to the mall lately, you'll notice that the 2010 cruise collections (i.e. bathing suits) are already in stock.
