If you think music festivals only invade cities like Austin, then you need to come to New Haven this weekend where a festival channels the spirit of South by Southwest.

"East Rock West Rock: New Haven Music Week" or "ERWR" runs Friday through Oct. 18. It's the brainchild of Anna Liffey's owner, Patrick Mansfield, who is also a disc jockey in his spare time. The festival will bring more than 100 acts to dozens of venues across the city, including the Ivy Lounge, Toad’s Place and Urban Outfitters together for one event.

Local bands and large national acts including biggies such as New Found Glory, Colin Munroe and Eve 6 are all part of the inaugural ERWR. In total, more than 150 artists will perform over a nine-day period, with approximately 30 venues holding events as part of the festival.

ERWR kicks off Friday night, Oct 9, with an opening party at 7 p.m. at The Playwright. The Breakfast will perform along with Brooklyn’s Frank Viele. Then at 9 p.m., indie singer/songwriter Colin Munroe will perform at the Ivy Lounge. Munroe will headline, the night also includes performances from Jared Evan, The Smyrk, Mike Falzone and Modern Hearts Break Faster, Zipp’s band.

For a list of venues and acts, browse the festival Web site.
