Getting Romantic on Willimantic Streets

We all love a summer street festival.  So hop on over to Willimantic this Thursday for their eighth annual “Third Thursday Street Fest”.

Every “third Thursday” in the coming summer months, five blocks of Main Street will be closed to cars for an evening filled with shopping, arts, culture and community.

Browse around Main Street and take in the sites.  “Our efforts to include and exhibit the diversity in our region have helped to define Main Street as a common locale in which the entire community feels represented and welcome,” read a statement on their Web site.

There’s something for everyone:  Performers, clowns and kid-friendly events such as face painting and a Bounce Room will line the streets.

Enjoy tons of great food from vendors showcasing their homegrown goods, or head to one of the many culturally diverse food venues featuring authentic Indian, Mexican, Syrian, Puerto Rican, Italian, and Ukrainian delicacies.

And there’s always room for dessert!

Be sure to grab an old-fashioned ice cream float before kicking back and enjoying live performances ranging from rhythm & blues and African drumming, to Kung Fu and puppeteers.

The fun lasts from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. every third Thursday until September.

Check their Website for street closing and shuttle information.
