Drink Your Way to Helping Berlin Charities

Berlin is partying for a cause.

The town of Berlin is planning to party for a purpose, and you're invited.

Berlin Spirits package store will host a wine and beer tasting at the Berlin Fair Grounds on June 27. For $20, guests can taste a variety of wines and beer, and sample appetizers. But it's not just about the food. Door prizes will also be available.

All the proceeds will go to Berlin Lions Charities, which include Fidelco Guide Dogs, Juvenile Diabetes, CRIS Radio, Lions Low Vision Center, high school scholarships and youth organizations.

“Zero money. We hope to attract 500 people and that the event will clear between $5,000 to $10,000 for the charities after expenses. We’re not selling any spirits that evening. Anyone who samples wine or beer he likes can visit our store the following week and purchase it,” Frank Facciolo told the New Britain Herald.

They'll be watching to make sure you did not taste too much.

“We’ll make sure nobody leaves the fair grounds intoxicated,” said Facciolo.”If somebody needs a ride home, they’ll get one. We’ll have plenty of security there. We’ve got everything covered.”

Lions Club Chairman Ron Bosco, treasurer of the event, said local merchants have donated raffle prizes: Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics tickets, food baskets, fruit baskets and other items from local merchants.
