Connecticut wants to make sure no kid in America grows up hungry. One plate at a time, local restaurants aim to raise money Thursday night for this nationwide problem.

Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation is the nation’s premier culinary benefit and, once again, Hartford is taking part.

This year's event includes food from some of the finest area restaurants and chefs. There will be both silent and live auctions, which include travel and entertainment packages.

The 2009 Celebrity Chef is David Burke, one of the leading pioneers in American cuisine. Burke has two new restaurants in Foxwoods Casino and Resort-David Burke Prime, a steakhouse that house a three-story wine tower, and Burke in the Box, which opens this month.

Taste of the Nation Hartford is at 960 Main St. VIPs pay a fee of $120, while general admission is $75. The event starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m.

All of ticket sales help ensure no child in America grows up hungry. Hartford’s grantees include Foodshare, Hartford Food System and End Hunger Connecticut.

For a list of the participating restaurants or to buy tickets, check the Taste of the Nation.
