Yes, Soup for You
Hot soup around the corner sounds good on a chilly day.
Jessica Hazan is taking her soup to the streets.
Two years ago, Hazan started her own business, delivering homemade soups to customers who order them online or over the phone. But now, she's expanding her business, setting up a cart and selling her soups around New Haven, the New Haven Register reports.
And her business, simply known as The Soup Girl, couldn't be better. "The cold weather helps us," Hazan told the paper. "People think of soup."
Much like New Haven's popular Cupcake Truck, and the new Cheese Truck, Hazan uses Twitter to let the lunchtime crowd know where she'll be.
But the bulk of her business still comes from her soup deliveries. She prepares the soups in the kitchen of the Olde School Saloon and Bistro, a new, separately-owned restaurant on State Street, the Register reports.
The former teacher from Hamden says it's been a life-long dream to do something like this.
“I always wanted to pursue something culinary, and I figured it was now or never. I decided to give it a shot,” Hazan told the paper.
She offers three soups per week. One has meat or seafood, one is vegetarian and the other one is vegan. In a tweet on Wednesday, Hazan was offering Loaded Baked Potato, Lentil and West African Peanut soups.
Hazan takes the cart out on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you can't make it out to meet her, the business will deliver soups to homes and offices in New Haven, North Haven, Cheshire, Wallingford and Hamden, according to the paper.
Soups ordered on Monday can be delivered by Thursday, so plan ahead.
