Recent upgrades to the Goodwin Hotel in Hartford couldn't fix one thing - the checkbook.

The company that owns the hotel, Northland Investment Corporation, says it will close the doors at the end of the year because of heavy financial losses.

More than $6 million in losses, to be exact, since the company took over the hotel in 2005.

Northland says the closing could be reversed if the hotel's union takes over the business.  Northland's offered to lease the building to the hotel union for just $1 for a year, if they're willing to keep it up.  Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez is also looking into potential buyers.
