Developers are breaking ground on a shopping, dining and residential destination near UConn.

The future Storrs Center will include residential developments, as well as several shops and restaurants.

Plans for the future Storrs Center ‘Re-think Main Street Plan’ include 700 residential units, consisting of studios, and one-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments.

Plans for the development include conservation areas and pedestrian walkways.

Businesses expected to open include Cosimo’s Italian Restaurant, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Storrs Automotive, and The Vanilla Bean Café, according to Re-think Main Street.

Developers expect to complete this two-phase project in 2013. By then, it is expected that approximately 290 residential units and commercial buildings will be built.

A ground breaking ceremony will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
