Taking on the Trend: The Boyfriend's Back

Seventy Two Changes

Seventy Two Changes designer, Jolin Tsai, showcases her Fall 09 collection while wearing her ruched sleeve boyfriend blazer.

WOOLIE BULLY: Free People's Woolie Jacket ($168) looks more like the tweed "acceptable" suit you wish your own boyfriend would throw away - yet, when layered over summer's hippie chic frocks and paired with knitted tights or socks, it works. We prefer the Olive and recommend that you don't size up - size down if possible - since we want you to look chic, not schlubby. Try it buttoned up and paired with an off-the-rack favorite this season, like a Victorian ruffled blouse.  We envision the Wuthering Heights-esque Chanel ads and no one's complaining about that! Visit Free People in Greenwich or order online.

EXTRA PADDING: We love Taiwanese pop star, Jolin Tsai and L.A.M.B. co-founder, Ken Erman's new line, Seventy Two Changes. The collection features Asian-inspired street wear mixed with a little contemporary Hollywood office glamour, with a result that is shockingly sophisticated and covetable. The mini pop star herself was photographed promoting her collection in her rouched sleeve Boyfriend Blazer ($228). Slim, fitted shoulder pads and extra long lapels make this blazer work and can easily give your office-wear a daily edge. Find at Nordstrom in Farmington or order online.

GIMME GLAM: We've noticed mall brand Express has been riding the boyfriend blazer trend for a few seasons now, but this time we were particularly blown away by their metal stud-embellished Boyfriend Jacket ($98). Unless your boyfriend is Adam Lambert, the only "borrowed from the boys" feature of this jacket that we can see is extra hip-skimming length - but that's okay, we still love it. At a price that won't break the bank, this 3/4 sleeve wonder will pull together any outfit, from a plain-t and jeans to the longest of evening gowns.
