Wintery weather, power outages and a water main break combine to make for a slow commute this morning.

Power was knocked out in parts of Norwalk and Mystic for almost 11 hours after a driver hit a utility pole on Route 1 early this morning.

Adam J. Perry, 23, of Taftville was driving on Route 1 and Flanders Road just after midnight on Friday when he struck the pole.  Police closed Route 1 to traffic from Flanders Road to Bel-Aire Drive and charged Perry with DUI. Perry was not hurt.

Problems continued in Hamden, where a water main broke at 5:30 a.m. Police warn those traveling along on Whitney and Carmel avenues to be careful.

Commuters should expect cold and wind to make getting around difficult all day. Check back with NBC Connecticut with updates on weather and traffic throughout the day. Read the forecast here.

More than 100 schools are opening late on Friday, and you can stay up to date on that, here.
