A loaded tractor-trailer carrying trash rolled over and burst into flames Monday afternoon, causing a mess for several hours on Interstate 91 in Hartford .

State Police say the driver, Thomas Petrocione, 25, of Plainville lost control of the truck and slammed into a jersey barrier before rolling over onto the exit offramp. The cab of the truck burst into flames.

Petrocione was pulled from the cab of the truck by people who were driving by.  He was rushed to Hartford Hospital and then airlifted to the Burn Unit at Bridgeport Hospital by Lifestar helicopter.  Bridgeport Hospital officials say Petrocione is in critical condition with serious burns.

Most of the southbound lanes were closed at exit 29a until late Monday night but State Police were able to reopen all southbound lanes just before 11PM.
