New I-95 Flyover Bridge Opens

The goal is to improve traffic flow.

Driving should be easier in New Haven, beginning this morning as the new flyover bridge opened on Interstate 95 North at exit 47.

If you're traveling I-95 North and want to take exit 47 to Route 34 into New Haven, you’ll exit onto a gentle sloping curve that takes you over the interstate and into downtown instead of exiting left.

The last barriers were removed on Monday morning and the new ramp and new traffic pattern is expected to allow drivers to maintain their speed, instead of braking and slowing down.

Traffic engineers expect this should cut down on backups and congestion, especially at peak drive times.

Businesses right off I-95, including Ikea, expected a much easier ride for customers as well.

The road project is running on time and under budget. The cost is $5 million under the $99 million budget.
