Seclusion Rooms By School District

The Troubleshooters chart the data on use of physical restraint and seclusion in schools

The first comprehensive data on how often Connecticut children are physically restrained and/or placed in “scream,” or seclusion, rooms is publicly available. We’ve mapped the data for parents to discover how often the rooms were used for the school year 2011 to 2012. The stats are from schools who voluntarily reported their numbers to the Department of Education. Starting next year, all schools in the state will be mandated to report the number of physical restraint and seclusion incidents in their facilities, thanks to new legislation passed after public outcry over Middletown Public Schools’ so-called scream room scandal.
