Snowy backyard in South Glastonbury
Patti

Thursday is bringing a little snow and a whole lot of cold.

The thermometers in Windsor Locks measured a frigid 12 degrees. One to 3 inches of snow is possible.

That cold does not change how the Department of Transportation goes after the snow coming down and hitting Connecticut streets but they do put a fuel additive in the trucks so the diesel fuel doesn't gel up.

Because state officials expect more people will need shelter in this weather, the state opened five National Guard armories to increase shelter space. They will remain open through Friday morning.

The armories are:

  • Hartford Armory, 360 Broad St.
  • New London, 249 Bayonet St.
  • Waterbury, 64 Field St.
  • Stratford, 63 Armory Road
  • Branford, 87 Montowese St.

Keep up on the forecast at NBC Connecticut.

Check your route to see if traffic delays are expected.

E-mail to us your snow photos or upload them here.
