By the time the rain stops Wednesday, some areas will have seven to eight inches of rain, and some said they have seen nothing like it.
Rain pummeled the shoreline area of the state and flash flood warnings are in affect until 4:15 p.m.
Ruth Williams, a Mystic native, said she has never seen it rain like this before, not even during the hurricanes.
The Mystic Aquarium parking lot is flooded, according to people who called in from the area.
Stonington emergency services crews have been swamped with calls about flooding, including flooded basements.
The storms have flooded Route 1 and Coogan Boulevard. The problem is that they can direct traffic but obviously, they can do nothing about the rain, Edward Haberek Jr., the first selectman said.
If it feels like it has been raining for weeks and weeks, you would be right. It has rained on 20 out of the last 30 days.
Keep up on the forecast. Watch the weather map.
