Storms swept through Connecticut Thursday night, knocking down trees, knocking out power and setting fire to the house of an 83-year-old Manchester man.
Lightning hit the roof of a two-car garage on Butternut Road and made a hole in a propane tank, which ignited, Manchester Fire, Rescue and EMS said in a news release.
The man was home with his dog when fire gutted the back of the home and destroyed a garage.
No information is available on whether the man was hurt. He is living with neighbors.
Almost 1,200 Connecticut Light and Power customers were still in the dark at 8 a.m. Friday. Watertown is the hardest hit, with 345 customers left with no electricity. More than 500 United Illuminating customers have no power Friday morning. The most outages are in New Haven, where 222 customers have no electricity.
There is a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm Friday. Keep up on the weather forecast with NBC Connecticut meteorologists.
