Feel the Earth Shake Near Moodus?

    There was 1.3 magnitude earthquake in Connecticut last night.

    The earthquake happened at 8:42 p.m. about 5 miles from Moodus, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. From the Google map, it looks like the epicenter was close to Devils Hopyard State Park.

    The cause of "rumblings" near Moodus had been a matter of scientific speculation for years, according to U.S.G.S.

    Native Indians called East Haddam Morehemoodus, or place of noises, and the town name "Moodus" derived from the Indian word.

    The largest earthquake in state history was in East Haddam on May 16, 1791.
