Storm Knocks Out Power, Takes Down Trees

Winds gusted over 40 miles per hour

More than 1,000 Connecticut households woke up without power on this wet but warm Thursday morning.

Just before 11a.m., Eversource is reporting just under 900 power outages, down from 4,041 outages.

Roads were affected by the storms as well.

According to state police, Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Route 85 was closed in the Amston section of Hebron between Lake Road and Niles Road because of a large tree blocking the road, but part of the tree is reopened as crews remove the tree.

In East Granby, Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 East Street at Russell Road was shut down after a tree and wires came down and a downed tree limb damaged parked cars along Townsend Avenue in New Haven and broke some windows.

There were also several crashs.

There was a rollover on Route 9 South in New Britain, between exits 28 and 27, as well as a rollover on Interstate 84 in Southington.

In West Hartford, a traffic light came down on Albany Avenue at Starkel Road and crews from the state Department of Transportation and Eversource responded to repair it.

Several inches of rain fell in many Connecticut towns as the remnants of Hurricane Patricia moved through overnight.

Wind gusts surpassed 40 mph, which resulted in downed limbs. Peak color is over in most spots after leaves were brought down by the wind.
