Widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely today as the hot and humid weather continues.

While we’re not expecting widespread severe weather, a few thunderstorms might become strong with gusty winds, lightning, small hail and torrential rain .

Storms bringing tropical downpours will develop across the state this afternoon and last, off and on, through the evening.

A flash flood watch has been issued for Hartford, Tolland, and Litchfield Counties for this afternoon and evening due to the potential for heavy rain in any slow-moving thunderstorms.

Storms are likely to continue through the week.
