When the Huskies and Mustangs head to the locker room for halftime of Sunday's AAC matchup in Gampel Pavilion, UConn will step into the past when they honor the 1999 team, reports the Hartford Courant's Dom Amore.
That' right, it's been 15 years since UConn won its first national title.
"It seems even longer," Kevin Freeman, a forward on the 1998-99 Huskies, told Amore. "It really seems like a long time ago, a lot of basketball and a lot of life has passed. But I'll tell you, the memories are still fresh in my mind."
And Ricky Moore, now a UConn assistant, added: "I just remember before the last game [against Duke]. Coach just told us, 'There's no tomorrow, so leave it out there on that floor,' and that's what we did. There was no pressure on us, we really had nothing to lose. We had a great game plan and we executed it."
The Huskies, led by Rip Hamilton and his 21.5 points per game, went 34-2 that season and 16-2 in the Big East. UConn would also win national titles in 2004 and 2011.
