President Barack Obama didn't pick UConn to win the National Championship this year.
But Obama joked the Huskies' presence in the East Room of the White House Monday proved his March Madness bracket was a bust. "The next time you guys decide to win 11 straight, please let me know," the President said.
The country's number-one basketball fan welcomed UConn at the White House to honor the team's victory over Butler in the National Championship game in April. He even challenged UConn's star, Kemba Walker, to a game of one-on-one, with a catch. "As long as he is wearing street shoes and a suit," Obama said.
Head Coach Jim Calhoun thanked President Obama for inviting the Huskies to the White House, saying much like Obama in the presidential election, his team was considered underdogs in this year's NCAA tournament. "Yes we can", Calhoun said, evoking Obama's campaign slogan during his 2008 run for the White House.
Walker gave Obama a UConn jersey with the number 1 on the back, along with the president's name.
