Recruit Edwards Scores 20 in All-Star Game

We've spent a lot of time recently talking up Geno Auriemma's 2015 recruiting class, and for good reason: It includes the nation's best rising high school senior, Katie Lou Samuelson, two other top-10 players in De’Janae Boykin and Napheesa Collier, as well as Georgetown transfer Natalie Butler, the 2013-14 Big East Freshman of the Year.

But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. The 2014 class is formidable in its own right and includes four players: Gabby Williams (5-11, Nevada), Courtney Ekmark (6-0, Arizona), Kia Nurse (5-11, Canada) and Sadie Edwards (5-9, New Jersey)

On Wednesday, according to the Connecticut News' Rich Elliott, Edwards scored 20 points to lead Suburban All-Stars to a 72-69 win over the City All-Stars at the Haverford (Pa.) School. At one point, the future Husky reeled off 11 straight points.

“She’s a great player and she’s someone if you’re on her team she’s going to push you to be better every day,’’ said Batouly Camara, Edwards' former teammate and UConn recruiting target for 2015. “She sets the bar every high in practice.

“She’s a competitive person. Very competitive. Has a great work ethic. So I think that’s what sets her apart. I think she can do well (at UConn).’’

Camara, who is 6-2, told Elliott she'll take her official visit to Storrs in the fall but has yet to narrow down her college choices.

“Right now, I’m definitely keeping my options open,’’ Camara said. “I’m just trying to get to know a little bit more about every school before I narrow my list.’’

That said, it's hard to overlook the Huskies when they take an interest.

“I think that just shows the work I’ve put in,’’ Camara said. “It’s an honor to even be looked at by UConn and it’s something I’m very happy about.’’
