UConn Arrives Home to Cheers From Fans

Hundreds of UConn fans greeted the Huskies at Bradley Airport Wednesday as the team returned home from New Orleans as NCAA national champions.

The team's plane touched down around 4 p.m.  Senior center Heather Buck held the championship trophy as the team walked off the plane to cheers from the crowd.

Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman led a brief celebration at the airport and head coach Geno Auriemma thanked the crowd.

"We're happy and we're really proud to bring the national championship home to you people," Auriemma said.

The team then headed to campus for a National Champion "Victory Lap" through campus.

The team rode in an open-air double decker bus, accompanied by the UConn pep band and cheerleaders.

At the end of the "Victory Lap" there was a brief rally at the Fairfield Way Plaza,  between the student union and the School of Business.

The "Victory Lap" is being held instead of a rally in Harry A. Gampel Pavilion that has taken place in the past.

There is also a victory parade in the works for a future date.
