UConn's 2K Classic Schedule Takes Shape

The UConn men's basketball schedule continues to take shape. The latest revelation: the 12-team field for the 2K Classic has been set. The tournament takes place in November and in addition to the Huskies, includes top teams Boston College, Indiana and Washington.

In June, we noted that Boston University and the University of Detroit could come to Gampel as part of the 2K Classic. The Hartford Courant's Dom Amore writes this week that the location -- Gampel or the XL Center -- has yet to be determined, but that Detroit is on the schedule for Nov. 14 and BU for Nov. 17.

The Huskies will then travel to Madison Square Garden to face BC on Nov. 21 and either Indiana or Washington on Nov. 22.

As we’ve noted, lots of upside for UConn here. It’s a four-game event, which allows them to count it as three on their non-conference schedule and play 31 games. They get exposure at MSG, important with the loss of the Big East Tournament. And if all goes according to plan, they get a great non-conference game against Indiana.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Indiana will get home games against LIU-Brooklyn and Stony Brook; BC will host Toledo and Florida Atlantic and Washington will host UC-Irvine and Eastern Washington. Once the “big four” move to the Garden, the other teams involved will pair off against each other.

Last season, while facing an NCAA postseason ban, the Huskies won 20 games. In 2013-14, they're sanction-free and looking to return to the Big Dance. On paper, there's no reason to think it won't happen, and success at the 2K Classic could help catapult UConn back into the national conversation.
