Huskies Take On Michigan State in Elite Eight

The UConn men’s basketball team takes on Michigan State at Madison Square Garden today in a match-up that will send the winner to the Final Four next weekend.

The game kicks off at 2:20 p.m. It’s the seventh-seeded Huskies’ first appearance in the Elite Eight since they won the natinonal title in 2011.

UConn (29-8) was barred from last year’s NCAA tournament because of academic sanctions, but the fourth-seeded Michigan State Spartans (29-8) are looking to keep alive a streak. Since coach Tom Izzo took over in 1995, every player he recruited who stayed four years has reached a Final Four.

The Huskies expect their fans to make Madison Square Garden sound like a home game.

Metro-North is providing an extra train to bring UConn fans into the city today. The “Huskies Fan Express” leaves New Haven at 10:04 a.m. and will stop in West Haven at 10:45 a.m., Bridgeport at 11:03 a.m. and Harlem at 12:10 p.m. It will arrive at Grand Central Terminal at 12:23 p.m.

"With another great win last night, I have no doubt that thousands of Husky fans will be heading down to the Garden on Sunday to show their support," said Gov. Dannel Malloy, in a statement. "Another win, and our next stop will be the Final Four."

The railroad says it will also have a train waiting at Grand Central to depart as needed based on when the game ends and fans arrive at the station.

Tickets to the game are priced from $149 to $1888, according to StubHub.
