Angelina Jolie Finally Getting Around to “Maleficent”

Angelina Jolie was first linked to "the Mistress of All Evil" in May 2009, the she was "keen" on playing the role in March 2010. Guess who's still interested...

"I haven't acted in two years, and I haven't done anything else since this [Land of Blood and Honey]. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie," Jolie said during a press conference at the Berlin Film Festival, where her directorial debut is screening, according to THR. That Disney movie is almost certainly "Maleficent."

You're forgiven if you've forgotten that Maleficent is the villain in Disney's 1959 version of "Sleeping Beauty," in which she puts a curse on Princess Aurora that she "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die" before turning 16.

Linda Woolverton ("Alice in Wonderland," "The Lion King," "Beauty and the Beast") has penned a revisionist take on the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora, and last month Disney announced that Robert Stromberg (production designer on "Avatar" and "Alice and Wonderland") would be making his directorial debut with the film.
