Director Matt Reeves Is Entering “The Twilight Zone”

Forget all those huge names that were floating around last week, as the director’s chair for “The Twilight Zone” will be filled by a man who wasn’t even considered a dark horse in the race.

Matt Reeves, director of last year’s criminally overlooked “Let Me In,” is Warner Bros.’ choice to direct “The Twilight Zone,” reported Deadline. The choice comes as something of a surprise in light of the fact that the most recent reports had the studio looking at Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay, Alfonso Cuaron, David Yates and Rupert Wyatt.

Unlike the previous “TZ” film, which was anthology of remade episodes, this one will tell a single story touching on themes from several episodes of the show. Reeves will soon do some work on Jason Rothenberg’s script, with an eye toward going into production next summer.

Reeves is an excellent choice, despite lacking the cache of some of the other names. “Let Me In,” his remake, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, of the Swedish vampire film “Let the Right One In,” was a richly detailed and creepy story that also possessed a very sincere sweetness in its coming-of-agelessness story. But it inexplicably bombed, failing to reach even $15 million at the box office. Hats off the Warner Bros. for looking past the film’s commercial failure, and recognizing the talent that went into making it.
