It's only Taken 6 Years, But “Margaret” Has a Release Date

In 2000, Kenneth Lonergan was hailed as a great new talent in the world of indie cinema for his directorial debut, "You Can Count on Me," starring Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo., Now, 11 years later, his sophomore effort has finally been granted a release date.

"Margaret," a post-9/11 tale starring Anna Paquin as a flirtatious high school student who may have been responsible for a fatal bus crash, is finally being released Sept. 30, 2011. The film also stars Matt Damon, Allison Janney, Olivia Thirlby, and "You Can Count on Me" alum Mark Ruffalo and Matthew Broderick.

Lonergan finished shooting the film in 2005 and it has since been trapped by endless editing, legel wrangling and recriminations. Back in May it was learned that Martin Scorsese was stepping in to try and help craft a workable edit, and it appears that he may have had some success.

Hopefully Lonergan can deliver another film before 2022.
