New “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” Loading Up On the Awesome

Having "Let the Right One In" helmer Tomas Alfredson directing a script from Peter Morgan is a pretty damn good start to bringing John LeCarre's "Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy" back to life. But today's casting news has officially put this project over the top.

Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Michael Fassbender have joined the cast of "Tinker," reported Variety.

Reports that Oldman had been meeting with Alfredson surfaced in early June, as did word that Firth and Fassbender were possibly in the mix, as was David Thewliss.

Alec "Obi-Wan" Guinness in 1979 played George Smiley to great acclaim in the BBC's seven-part adaptation of the story of Agent Smiley, a man who appears painfully normal and at times bumbling, but possesses a keen mind that is always spinning furiously. Think Columbo if he were a proper English gentleman.

LeCarre has been working on the script with Morgan for more than a year now, and Alfredson hopes shooting will begin in September.
